Best Friends and Fashion Trends
I had a GREAT weekend full of girl time, great food and fantastic fashion - it was a blast! Rachel came up to visit on Thursday and we had a great time enjoying the city. I think Rachel got a true taste of what NYC living is really like - including pouring down rain and overwhelming wind, but hey, it's all part of the package! We went the Shecky's Girls Night Out event where we enjoyed cocktails and shopped all the latest trends in clothes and shoes and bags, oh my! I had never heard of Shecky's before but of course Ruthie knew all about it - take a look at their website for more information on the event and Shecky's fashion forums - http://www.sheckys.com/ and www.sheckys.com/gno .
My take on designers to keep a look out for:
Orangia - http://www.orangiausa.com/ - All I have to say about this designer is WOW. Rachel was lucky enough to find a top that is fantastic - I had already found my top for the evening but did happen to find a $200 silk dress I thought I couldn't live without - I managed to walk away with my bank account still in tact. Very hard to do - but still the right decision. Check them out - everything screams girly, sexy and beautiful - you'll love it all!
Emmett McCarthy - EMc2 - http://www.emmettmccarthy.com/ - I did invest in a blouse from this spring line, the Posh style, and I don't regret my decision. Of course, the weather needs to warm up by about 50 degrees for me to actually wear this out of the house without another two or three layers on top of it BUT it will be great when I finally do get to wear it. This designer is a Project Runway reject from the past who has managed to create a classy, shiek brand and style that embodies the feminine lines of women, all shapes and sizes. His collection is extensive - take a look!
Madison Harding - http://www.madisonharding.com/ - OK. Talk about a major decision. Rachel and I went through a huge pro and con list on whether I should or should not buy these amazing boots that I fell in love with by this up and coming shoe design team. Take a look at what I finally designed to pass on - based on the 2.5 inch heel height which in my past life would be no problem but NOW, is a huge discomfort after trecky around this city for hours. That being said, I can't stop thinking about the boots - I actually emailed to see where else I might be able to get them from. We'll see if I wind up with a pair - right now, they are still shouting my name.
Those are my picks for designers to watch and find a way to grab a piece or two from! I will confess that I did grab some boots - not the same ones I'm yearning for but others I found on sale and one pair I just needed. People don't understand how bad the rain is until they experience it - tell them Rachel! Hopefully my new red boots will help with the monsoons and my black boots, well - they are just for fun. =)

One more note about the Shecky's Girls Night Out - while sipping on a trendy drink made with Finlandia Mango-Flavored Vodka (Rachel was double fisting...haha), we happened upon a Lifebooker.com booth. Sound familiar Ruthie? For those who are Randomness of Ruth frequenters, you might recall her mentioning this site recently on her blog (check post: http://www.randomnessofruth.com/2008/03/how-do-you-make-blonde-laugh-on.html). I'll let you read about it on Ruth's site but will mention - the coolest part - the girls working the booth had read YOUR BLOG RUTH. They flag anytime people mention Lifebooker on other websites and they knew exactly what we were talking about when we mentioned your blog - pretty cool, huh? We took a picture to let you know we were thinking of you - your blog continues to make the bigtime Ruthie!
Here's some pics from the last week and weekend. Job starts on Tuesday - fingers crossed that things go well...I have a lot to learn but can't wait to get started and make some moolah! Brother comes in on Tuesday for a week of leisure and play and sight-seeing - can't wait to see him! Jill - thanks for the sweet message - I MISS YOU. Talk to you all soon - have a great week!
